Questions, Answers and Feedback to date:

Great place, just what Winchester needed! I recently moved from west Pennsylvania so I frequently have many visitors (family and friends) the Union Jack is the first stop and always the stop they like best.

Keep up the good work! Cheers!

We're excited about your pub opening!  Will it be non-smoking? If you are still deciding, here's a vote for non-smoking. USA

Thanks for writing & your input!
Well so far .... We were going to make the entire building non - smoking.
BUT-  Further feedback has also requested "Smoking."
Sooooooooo we thought we would "begin" at a compromise (& will still want future feedback from you).
Front Restaurant - definitely non-smoking.  54 ft. Bar area, we decided to put double the number of vents required for capacityfor clean air- & allow smoking due to popular demand.  Upstairs Game/music room- actually I am not sure what has been decided.
I think, before long, there will no longer will be indoor smoking anywhere by law. In the meantime- continue feedback & what you would like to see in an Authentic British Pub & Restaurant.
Many thanks for your input & I hope you will be joining us soon for English & European beers, food, music, good times & atmosphere.

A dream of mine is to live in a town with draught Boddingtons bitter (Pub Ale in the US) & wondered if you had considered this brew for your new venture. Boddingtons is originally a Manchester beer which was made at the Strangeways brewery starting in 1778. It is now owned by INBEV (Anheuser Busch's new owners come the end of the year). USA

Your dream has come true! You will be living in a town with Boddingtons on draught.  Richie loves Boddingtons too.  We will have 24 on draught & can send you the list so far.  Richie says we are now up to abt. 130 or more different beers.  Richard dislikes most American beers, but we will carry that too- Think he's having some cider as well.

Very glad to see all aspects of this. I hope he will keep warm Guinness, and some of the classic bitters like Old Peculier, Old Museum, Bombadier, Spitfire, and especially Old Speckled Hen. London England

Offering  many at  “Cellar Temperature” which is requires for the best flavour in English Brews. Definitely Guiness + Old Speckled Hen & a good selection of Bitters, Ales, Lagers & more ...

OUCH ... It should be the Union FLAG Pub. The Union Jack flies only from the Jack staff of a ship ... but common usage means Union Jack is the most recognised but incorrect name.

Your explanation on the flag is nteresting, but it is a "British term" +  common usage.
We picked that name as a close name to "Union Bank" - little change of lettering.
Also we have a grandson in England named Jack with special needs. So the Pub + London Taxi
are also named for him.
So sorry, "Union Jack" it is.
One could also say The Star Spangled Banner flew only from the taff of a ship- but I would happily accept that as reference to the American Flag.
Anyway- hope you can come to the USA sometime & visit wonderful Historic Winchester, first under British rule n the 18th century - & also visit our new Pub & Restaurant with food & beer you would be very familiar with!  Home away from home!

As a one time Boy Scout and now a grumpy old man the mis-naming of the Union Flag is one of my rants.
I accept that Union Jack is the better commercial name as it is more well known under that name.
So may I wish you the best of success with the venture.
And it is very good that there is a British influence back in Winchester to keep an eye on those troublesome colonials ... <<smile>>
I have been the USA three times and the last time in June 2002 managed to get to Winchester to pay respects at the grave of Patsy Cline.
Some time, hopefully within the next couple of years, there will be another visit I am sure either a business trip to Baltimore / Washington or maybe just a holiday. Hope you will have Guinness on draught... Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire UK
